Adam Schiffer is well-recognized as a premier trial lawyer and international advocate. Chambers USA's comprehensive surveys of clients and other lawyers repeatedly rank Schiffer as one of the best commercial litigators in Texas, noting that Schiffer's peers praised his "smart advice, efficiency and great energy industry insight." Who's Who Legal identifies Schiffer as a leader in arbitral practice, describing him as "Outstanding Counsel" in international arbitration matters. Schiffer regularly has been named a top 100 "Super Lawyer" in peer rankings and Schiffer's fellow trial lawyers have elected him to the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Schiffer's results speak for themselves. In the last ten years, Schiffer has recovered more than $240 million for his clients in litigation, domestic arbitrations, and international arbitrations. On the defense side, Schiffer's record is equally as impressive. Schiffer has handled matters ranging from bet-the-company cases on behalf of corporations to representing individuals in their most important matters, including claims of corporate malfeasance, securities fraud, and breaches of fiduciary duty. In 2008, Schiffer was the lead trial lawyer in the defense of the largest oil and gas case pending in the State of Mississippi - and won (Plaintiff took nothing on its claims). Schiffer's international arbitration expertise includes disputes concerning the construction of power plants, oil refineries, and off-shore drilling platforms, as well as the interpretation of JOAs, farm-in agreements, and other energy industry-specific contracts. He has arbitrated matters before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), under the Rules of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), JAMS, and the American Arbitration Association. Schiffer's arbitrations have included disputes arising in Argentina, China, the Former Soviet Union, India, Mexico, Norway, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago, and Turkey.

Schiffer's trial victories have come for both plaintiffs and defendants. He has handled high-profile cases in Alabama, Arizona, California, Delaware (Chancery), Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and throughout Texas. Schiffer's jury verdicts have been profiled in The National Law Journal, Reuters, Bloomberg, PRNewswire, CNBC, Marketwatch, The Texas Lawyer, the Houston Chronicle, and many other publications.

Energy, Construction, and Financial Services are some of the industries that have taken Schiffer to the courthouse often. He has won major trials for a Fortune 50 engineering, procurement and construction company; major oil & gas companies; and national health care providers - successfully defending them in various trials in which the plaintiffs sought damages totaling more than $1 billion. For plaintiffs, Schiffer has recovered hundreds of millions of dollars in cases whose subject matter ranges from straightforward business disputes to a controversy concerning the construction of power plants in Peru. As a trial specialist, Schiffer often is hired to take over a case on the eve of trial.

Schiffer graduated from Dickinson College, magna cum laude, in 1983 as a member of Phi Beta Kappa and recipient of the William Lennox Avis History Prize. In 1986, he received his law degree from the University of Houston, where he was an editor of the Houston Law Review, was a member of the Order of the Coif, and received the Houston Bar Foundation Award. Schiffer worked for sixteen years for the international law firm of Vinson & Elkins. From 1994 to 2003, Schiffer was a partner in the firm. In 2003, Schiffer left Vinson & Elkins to join King & Spalding where he was co-lead of the International Arbitration Group. In 2007, Schiffer founded Schiffer Odom Hicks & Johnson.
